Finding the Right House

Once we had decided that Picton was the perfect retirement locale and also potentially a good place to run a bed and breakfast, we started looking at the MLS listings in that area for a suitable house.
We also contacted a real estate agent from the area and gave her our specifications.  Finding and buying a house happened more quickly than I anticipated - almost too fast.  However, we were looking for that unique house that could be both our retirement home and our business.
It was important that we had our own separate quarters to live in while running the b and b - a home within a home.  Most of the places in our price range did not have this. My husband and I did not wish to be confined to at most two rooms while our b and b guests occupied the rest of the house.  When we first saw the house on Maitland Street, we were impressed more with the self-contained apartment (the WOW factor as real estate agents like to put it) that would become our living quarters than with the rest of the house which was tired, dated and needed a lot of upgrades.  Fortunately, I have always been able to look past the cosmetic appearance of a house and focus on the potential.  After very little deliberation, we decided that we would not find a property that was this unique in the town of Picton.  I still believe that even though the house turned out to require more work than we anticipated, the loft apartment more than fulfilled our  requirement for personal space.
