We are now halfway through our fifth summer of running Nine Gables Bed and Breakfast.
It doesn't seem that long - although at this point in the summer, we are looking forward to September in anticipation of a much needed break. There are only so many days running of rising early, cooking breakfast, cleaning dishes, making beds, washing linens, vacuuming, cleaning and baking that one can take before getting off the merry-go-round.
The house and garden have never looked better and with my newly renovated upstairs kitchen pictured below, breakfast preparation has become a whole lot easier.
Wetter and milder than previous summers, this summer the garden has flourished despite a long and hard winter. I lost 2 climbing roses and 1 ornamental tree in the ice storm and the cedars are still a little brown in spots but the hydrangeas have never been bigger or the rudbeckia (along with the weeds) so prolific.
There have been several new additions (see garden art below) to the garden this year but no major projects besides staining both decks - still to be completed!
My newest hobby - glass sculptures - upcycled glass dishes

This birdfeeder was found at a local yard sale and was built by a local craftsman - what a find!.

Keeping the squirrels off the birdfeeder has been a challenge and our little dog (Gromet) tore his ACL chasing a ball so he has not been able to help control the menagerie of squirrels and cats that enter the yard.
Despite the cooler temperatures, The County has never been busier with many new visitors along with returning guests. The wineries and restaurants are flourishing and the beaches are crowded. Every day I still count my blessings that I live in such a picturesque and vibrant part of Ontario.
However despite all this, the impending government wind turbine projects are still managing to cast a dark shadow over our Garden of Eden!
